The Stokkeland's of South Western NY (Salamanca) host a Beer and sausage situation annually, on the day before Labor day. This page is mostly about that, but of course we can include other important situations, especially if they include beer.

The 2008 Situation is August 31st.

Beer is good, beer is good, beer is good, and stuff!
There are some good beer songs out there, Phsycostick is the latest one I know about - then some Norwegian songs from Busserulls and stuff. The most famous ones are probably the traditional Irish drinking songs, with titles like "A pub with no beer" and "Lannigan's Ball".

Why Keg?

Freshness!
The best would of course be served right from the serving tank at the brewery, that's not really doable at home.

If you have to go for a bottle, do some tasting to find the good stuff, learn how to spot the old ones.

We could say like Mario Batali does about Olive oil, that if your grocer doesn't let you taste the goods before buying then go somewhere else - well, I never been to place that does that (Other than a brewery or pub).

Kegs do not let any light in - there is quite a difference between kegs in the USA and the rest of the world (or at least Norway), in the US it is preloaded with CO2 as bubbles - in Norway it is flat, and the bubbling and cooling happens at the tap, adjustable by the beertender.
